⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Shinjiro Aragaki
Age: 18
Canon: Persona 3 FES
Canon Point: The day of his death, specifically right after he collapses to the ground.

Background: Tsundere's wiki here.

Personality: At first glance, he seems like the kind of guy one wouldn't want to find late at night in a dark alley (which isn't completely inaccurate). Often times coming across as ill-tempered and remarkably blunt in his comments, Shinjiro tends not to leave a very good impression on those he meets for the simple reason of not caring about what anyone thinks. It likely doesn't help that he's so used to intentionally pushing people away, and refusing to allow anyone to get close to him, that he can come off as somewhat standoffish to even the most friendly of people. That is, on the surface anyway.

Underneath all the rough edges and glowering looks, there's a person who deeply cares about those around him and will go to extreme lengths to make sure that others are out of harm's way and in some cases, happy. Even if that entails putting himself in danger, and more often than not that's exactly what he does. Given that he doesn't want to become responsible for seeing someone else hurt or worse because of his inaction or inability to do something about it.

It's also why he decided to take Persona suppressors (without telling anyone), in order to further prevent something like that from happening again. Having little faith in being capable of controlling himself after the death of Ken's mother, and not really caring about the lethal side effects it would have on him, Shinjiro decided that his own life was not worth protecting if that meant others were at risk.

He'll often get extremely agitated or embarrassed whenever someone starts to show concern for his own well being, casually brushing away such comments with an "I'm fine" or "Don't worry about me" nine times out of ten. Which usually works, unless it's Akihiko, who Shinjiro commonly butts heads with anyway. Many of their conversations turn into arguments over the smallest of things - ranging from competitions on who's better at doing something to which one of them has the healthiest eating habit (or lack thereof). The fact that neither one of them likes losing, and are incredibly stubborn about admitting defeat, means that both tend to get a little out of hand and often end up fighting with their fists rather than their words after awhile.

A constant that Shinji is ever grateful of, as Akihiko was the only person that he made a point to stay in contact with over the few years he kept his distance from people (since his friend stubbornly refused to leave him alone). The fact that they've known each other since they were orphans, and have gone through many hardships together, means there's a lot of trust and respect between them that Shinji doesn't truly have with anybody else. Even going so far as to request that Akihiko watch over and take care of Ken, in his moments before passing away.

Of course, that doesn't mean he didn't care about the other members of SEES while he was still alive. If anything, he took on a slightly "mom-like" role during the short time he lived with them. Often chastising and scolding the group when their eating habits weren't up to his standards, and going so far as to occasionally cook everyone's meals while he was living at the dorm. Though it helped that cooking was actually one of Shinjiro's favorite hobbies, and he would often spend his time learning how to make new dishes by watching step by step instructions via cooking shows. Something he tried to keep secret from others, as he felt that it would ruin the otherwise "serious" look he attempted to portray (along with his love for animals - particularly dogs).

To add to this, even though Shinji still has his hangups and loner-type tendencies, he's lighten up quite a bit since his time at Empatheias. Between having his emotions constantly on display, and interacting with people who cared very little about his own personal space, he's become a tad more sociable than what he'd previously been like. Doesn't mean he won't walk away from people when his patience has reached it's limit or that he'll tolerate anyone that gets under his skin, but it's better than what it was.

He's also more willing to talk about certain things involving him - like his interests in cooking, to some degree, and to a lesser extent, his love of animals (and all things cute). Of course, this is limited to only the people he feels comfortable enough to show that side of himself to, since he still feels it important to keep that tough guy image.

Likely why he's yet to speak on anything involving his past to those who don't already know about it, and will probably continue to keep the more personal matters close to his chest. Primarily because a small part of him worries that if people knew about the things he's done, they might see him differently.

Abilities: With the use of an evoker, Shinjiro has the ability to call forth a Persona (in vague terms it's like a manifestation of his personality) that goes by the name of Castor. Though powerful in nature, and with no particular weaknesses, it leans more towards physical attacks over magical when it comes to fighting - at least in terms of what kind of damage it does.

His persona also has some regenerative properties, but mainly to balance the fact that all of his attacks involving Castor tend to physically tire him out. Thus, Shinjiro has to be careful about over exerting himself, and space out his attacks to give himself time to recover.

For a better idea on what Castor's abilities entail, I listed all of his powers that I used while he was in Emp here.

Alignment: Daimonia, primarily because it was what I'd picked for him last time (and him being aligned to a pink dragon was amusing). It also reflected his emotions after the events of October 4th, in that he was relieved everything was finally over, but he still has a very hard time letting go of his past and all of his mistakes.

Other: He's been in Empatheias before, so he'll be returning with all his memories prior to when I dropped him (which was ages ago so poor boy will be super confused).

Similar to last time as well, Shinji will still have difficulty controlling his persona from time to time, but only if he allows his negative emotions to get the better of him for too long. There's plenty of symptoms and signs leading up to it - mainly in the form of his health slowly deteriorating to the state it was while he'd been taken suppressants. At least until Castor finally decides to break free and forces a 'reset'. Meaning that, Shinji ends up being so mentally and physically drained that he has to recover for a couple days (provided his persona doesn't kill him) and he'll be fine after that. It also means that it'll take a month or two before Castor has the capability of using the teenager's negative emotions as a means to free himself again.

That said, he knows how to counteract it now, by forcing himself to be around positive people or wear/eat/drink things that give him positive emotions in order to replace his suppressants (and it's a lot healthier). So generally, the only time Castor will ever act out is during plot things or if something really, really bad happens to him.

Provided all of this is still okay, of course!

General Sample: Here and here!

Emotion Sample:

No - stop, sit!

[The aggravated sounds of a teenager trailed after the scrambling of claws and wyvern-like chirps of delight, the kitchen door slamming open to make way for the giant green creature currently darting off with a piece of meat in it's maw.

Unruly as it ever was, but it still did very little to make Shinjiro quit from cursing under his breath. One hand rising to stop the door from closing on him, and making a mental note to scold the dragon later. He knew it wouldn't change anything but it'd make him feel better, especially now that he had to go out specifically to replace it. The very thought of it already causing a tiny trail of red sparks to circle around his arm and shoot across his shoulders, in a snake-like movement.

Though it just as quickly faded, when he rested his free hand over his face with a very loud sigh.
]

Acts like I don't feed 'em or something. Tch. [It's then that he feels a sudden nudge against his leg, causing him to take the time to peer quizzically down through his fingers. Only for his view to be replaced with a pair of dragon-like eyes staring back at him, before Sabi licked the side of his face the second his hand dropped away.

Something that only receives a snort in reaction, subtle tiny orbs of light popping into existence like sparkles as he gently shoved the dragon's face away.
]

Yeah, yeah. Be cute all you want, doesn't mean you're getting outta trouble.

Questions: No questions, just wanted to add that even though he's from P3FES, I do take some canon tidbits about his personality from other Persona games he appears in (primarily Persona Q and the one with the female protag). Doesn't really change much, since it only expands on what's already known about him.
